Skates & Apparel

RENTAL SKATES - Rental skates are included with the admission price and are available in toddler through Adult 16 sizes. Half sizes are not available, and skates are not specific to males or females.  Hockey and figure skates are available.  If you are new to skating, please see details below about skate selection, sizing and fit.

WHAT TO WEAR - The rink is cool in the summer and cold in the winter.  Dress in layers as you will warm up while skating.  Active skaters typically prefer a light outer layer or sweatshirt even on the coldest days.  If you are new to skating, light gloves and a helmet are recommended, especially for toddlers and young children.  Always wear socks.  Thin socks are fine.  Never wear two pairs of socks as this may result in poor skate fit and blisters.

SKATE SELECTION & FIT

  • Figure Skates - Provide more stability because they have a longer and wider blade.  They have a toe pick, the jagged edge on the front of the blade, which is used for jumps and spins.
  • Hockey Skates - Allow for faster and easier turns and pivots due to the slight curve of the blade.  They do not have a toe pick.
  • Which Is Easier? - First time skaters sometimes find that the stability of figure skates is helpful.  As the advantage is only slight, however, skaters should consider other factors such as their skating goals and the skate comfort.  Those with larger feet may find that hockey skates are more comfortable.
  • Size Selection - Skates should be snug.  Skate sizes are bigger than shoe sizes, so request skates that are a half to whole size smaller than your shoe size.  Never wear skates that are too big.  You will have difficulty skating and risk injury.  Return to the skate counter to trade for a smaller pair.
  • Laces - Loosen the skate laces before sliding the skate onto your foot.  Then lace skates tightly, from toes to the ankles, all the way to the top.  Do not leave any lace holes or hooks unused.  Do not allow laces to drag on the ice as they will create a tripping hazard.
  • Socks - Wear just one pair of socks of normal thickness.  Wearing two pairs of socks or extra thick socks may result in a poor fit, cause discomfort and lead to - rather than prevent - blisters.

HOCKEY GEAR RESTRICTIONS DURING PUBLIC SKATING - During Public Skating, skaters may wear a hockey helmet and hockey gloves only.  All other hockey equipment - including shoulder pads, hockey pants, elbow pads and shin pads - is prohibited.  No sticks or pucks are permitted on the ice during Public Skating session.

Music

MUSIC SELECTION - We play music from multiple decades and genres:  Pop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Country, Latin, Rock and others. Music played during our Friday night Public Skating sessions is geared toward teens and adults.  Music played on Saturday, Sunday or weekday Open Skating sessions is intended to be diverse and family friendly.  If you hear a song with explicit content - we apologize.  Some songs may slip through our streaming filters.  Please notify our staff so that we can skip to the next song.

SONG REQUESTS - Song requests are taken at the skate rental counter.  Please provide the song title and artist. At the start or end of sessions, or during very busy sessions, our staff may not be available to take requests or honor all requests.  Our staff may also deem some songs requested as inappropriate for that session.  We may also be unable to play songs due to licensing restrictions for that artist.

Birthday Parties & Groups

Ice skating is an ideal event for birthday parties or for company, church, school or community outings.  Our Public Skating sessions can accommodate hundreds of skaters, so no private reservations are required.  Your group or guests can just register online in advance or pay at the door as they enter the drink.  Our rink does not permit outside food or beverages such as fast food, catered items or birthday cakes.  But please visit our rink side restaurant and snack bar for refreshments.

In addition to the Rules below, please review our Public Skating Rules & Conduct before attending a session.
